A direct sculpture in alabaster. Dimensions are approximately 5.5" by 4.5" by 2". This sculpture was completed September 2001.
Always it is necessary for me to get out of the way of the sculptor -- thus allowing the true creator to bring the sculpture from the stone. Sometimes this task is harder than at other times. It is on these occasions when I must exercise a greater degree of control not allowing my preconception of "how it should be" to be imposed upon the final form.
Typically it will be a piece such as this that will sneak up on me days, weeks, or even months later. At a time such as this I'll suddenly exclaim in surprise "How'd that get in there!".
Often the one holding the chisel and rasp is the most disadvantaged since he or she must get past a presumed vision of the piece before the real vision of the piece can come through.
